Well what a week it's been! Loch Lomond, plenty of sunshine and our course is looking excellent in nearly October. Where do I start?
Hopefully you all caught a glimpse of Jordan Spieth's amazing FedExCup win on Sunday night. What a year this young man has had - US Masters champion, US Open champion, $14 million dollars - all before he reaches 23-years-old. The one thing that we should all learn from Mr Spieth is how much his short game saves and makes his scores, his powers of recovery are breath-taking and along with his putting stroke it is clear to see why he is the best player in the world right now.
Loch Lomond was the location for Friday's Euan Cause battle on the shores. Robert Clark and Bobby Davis were the opponents, with this being their first and possibly last ever visit to the Loch. With the sun shining and the clubs gleaming we headed for the 1st tee to meet our caddies and hit a few balls on the range. After nine holes my partner Steven and I were four down with Bobby and Robert a combined 6 under, after a wee drink at 9th tee we set about trying to claw back the deficit. Three wins in a row led to the game having just one shot in it and this is how the game ended, although if my partner's putt had dropped at 18 the lads might have had a return game. Thanks again to Steven for donating this amazing prize to our Euan Cause charity and to Bobby Davis for buying it at the auction.
On Saturday I headed to Greenock to play in their annual Charity Tri-Am event. Steven Higgins also attended as a past Gourock Champion and county player. Although feeling a little tired after the exertions of Loch Lomond, I did manage to start well from the 5th tee with a 3-3-3 start! After this explosive beginning I played reasonably solid with a lot of up and downs and eventually shot 67. This led me to tied 1st place with good friend and local Craig Thomson, although we shared first prize Craig took the trophy home with his inward 32 beating mine.
This year the annual Captain v Vice was played in lovely sunshine and with a twist. I volunteered to take charge of the opposing team as we do not have a current Vice in place. Although I was happy with my picks, the team never performed and with only myself and past captain Burnie winning a full point to add the deserved half point that lady captain Norma delivered with Jennie, it was a disappointing 3.5-1.5 defeat at the 80th playing of this event. Well done, Captain Knox.
