2015 Pro's Day is here
We are now on the countdown to my 9th Professional's Day at Gourock. This year I have 180 members and have my invited guests signed up to play. With all of the golf companies delivering the prizes over the next few days, it is going to be a brilliant prize table.
If anyone has not checked their tee-off time, please call the shop or email me here before Saturday
Entertainment this year will be provided by our resident DJ Craig. In a new addition to the day, we will have an acoustic set by musicians and new members Allan and Tom before the prizegiving. As always, the entertainment is free and you are welcome to invite your wives or girlfriends up at night.
I write this after being at Dundonald for two days playing. As I said last week, I headed there in good form and in confident mood. The course was in fantastic condition and we were met by sunny, warm conditions on day one.
After a solid front nine of level par, I headed into the back nine hoping to post under par. After missing a couple of chances I made bogey on 13 and then played the tough 15 and 16 holes in par. A good round was slightly spoiled by a three-putt bogey on 18. My 74 left me in a tie for 22nd place, with the scoring poor as it is a very tough course, but I was looking forward to day two.
We were met by windy conditions and with the course set up being longer on the second day, it was going to be a test for all. I managed to get through the first six in one-over-par with only a bogey at the long par-three fourth hole my only mishap. Birdies followed at seven and nine to get me to the turn in one-under. My birdie at seven was a lovely pitch in after coming up just short and the birdie at nine was from an inch after my approach nearly went in for eagle. I nearly made birdie at 10, 11 & 12 but the putts didn't drop. My customary bogey came at 13 which put me back to level. But my tournament ended on a high note with a birdie at the last, a level par 72 which moved me up to a 14th place finish.
Our County Cup team have now reached the final after a fine semi-final win. The team, led by captain Peter Eardley, included Ross McDermid, Ted McGhee and Mark McGregor will now play Ranfurly Castle at the neutral venue of Erskine GC on Sunday, 6 September Congratulations to the team and good luck in the final.
The last final of the Cameron Cup was played last weekend, Martin Turner and David Slack locked horns in an intriguing contest. Martin came into the final off the back of a fine gross 75 in the Saturday Medal and David has been his usual consistent level this year. After a close final Martin ran out the winner 1up, well done.
A couple of weeks ago we had a hole-in-one at Gourock. Craig Dunsmore made his ace at the 4th hole during the Medal on the 25th July. Congratulations, Craig.
