Hello Golfers,
I sit writing this 24 hours after Zach Johnson made par at the last to become the champion golfer at the 114th Open Championship. What a tournament we witnessed, wind, rain, sunshine, it had everything and kind of sums up our season so far at GGC. Almost every golfer had to cope with the poor conditions, Jordan Spieth almost got himself into the play off and Adam Scott blew it with a lost ball at 18.
I hope you all enjoyed the Monday finish to the golf and are now ready to get out onto the links. We had a very disappointing weekend at the club as the rain which fell on Friday night and the early hours of Saturday morning led to the cancellation of another Saturday medal. We have now lost five Saturday competitions and quite a few Wednesday competitions, too.
We are about to enter Championship time at GGC. This weekend we have the Senior event over Saturday and Sunday, with the Full Gentlemen's event on 1st August. All members are reminded the closing date to enter both events is Wednesday 22nd at 6pm. There will be no late entries for either competition.
On Monday, 27 July we will have the Junior Championship event, with all the boys striving to get their hands on Daragh's trophy and add their name to the illustrious list of winners in the clubhouse. The boys will, as normal, play 36 holes on the day with tee times of 9am & 2pm.
On Friday, 7 August we will again be hosting the corporate day for our main sponsor MacDonald & Co. This day will follow the same format as the last few years with a two tee start at lunchtime followed by a Prizegiving/Buffet evening in the club for Robert and all his guests.
In the coming weeks you will all see Aero Pixel Scotland about the club with their drone taking a new alternative look at GGC. The company will be undertaking a full flyover of the course including taking pictures that will hopefully be available to buy.
Apologies for the error in last week's newsletter. The new date for the Pro's Day of 29th August is correct however you will be able to sign up from the 1st August, not the 1st May as said last week. These times will NOT be done through the BRS system, but in person through the Pro Shop from 7am.
Next week I am taking a few days off to spend some time with my family. Although I am not getting away to sunnier climes I am planning on taking a small break from golf.
