Our new Lady Captain, Norma Ramsay, has begun her tenure with a fabulous Mixed Event played on a lovely sunny Easter Sunday afternoon at GGC.
With a great turnout, Norma enjoyed her first event and let's hope this weather is repeated throughout the year. The winners on the day and collecting an Easter egg each were Emma Boyd-Billy O'Donnell and Angus Mackay with 70.3.
In a couple of weeks we welcome Callaway fitter Euan Cameron to the club to give you all the opportunity to be fitted for the 2015 range of Callaway product. Bookings are now being taken for this event which will be held on Thu 7 May between 3:00pm and 7:00pm. I have already had some interest in this and would ask anyone who would like fitted to book ASAP by contacting the shop here.
With Jordan Spieth grabbing all the plaudits from a brilliant performance at Augusta, it was left to our very own RT Rice to re-write the history books and all records known at GGC. Playing in the inaugural Masters Competition and vying to win the coveted shield donated by Mr John Leith, RT recorded a brilliant 23 points! Congratulations to Robert on this, he is pictured here receiving the Green Polo and Trophy from John.
We have been really busy this week with our first ever Easter Camp for primary school children of Inverclyde. In conjunction with Active Schools we have had 24 boys and girls on site all week learning about golf and its many rules. Through the first few days we have endured some damp weather but the boys and girls have had great fun and enjoyed the teaching.
This Saturday we get back to normal with an Individual Club Stableford played from the normal tees and with the second green back in play. Please bear with us regarding the use of mats as we hope to be able to open the fairways very soon.
I was lucky enough to be in St Andrews last week, the work has started to build the grandstands for the Open being played there this year. I captured this photo while returning to my car, who knows whether will Jordan Spieth be celebrating another Major or Rory will have got back to winning ways by then?
Finally, at this time we would like to remind all members of the importance of replacing divots and repairing pitch marks, the front of many of the greens are littered with pitch marks. A little time spent repairing your own plus-one other would give us great surfaces during the season.
