Club news

Busy, busy. busy...

Another week, and a busy one at that here at GGC with yet more busy days ahead following the family fun day. The Cleats Golf Day went extremely well with over 80 members anf friends enjoying an excellent day and kindly raised another £465 which has been donated to Molly’s Fund.

John, Gordon, Chris & Shaw come out on top...

The Roxburgh Trophy Scramble took place on Saturday and another good turnout with the winners on the day John McGilvray, Gordon Mckillop, Chris Cleary & Shaw Lafferty with a score of a 53.4.

A major success!

On Sunday we hosted our now annual community family fun day.

It was another busy family event which saw over 300 enjoy a lovely day with activities spread around the clubhouse and course. Ashleigh and her staff ensured everyone was fed and John Shanks ice cream van kept the kids going while Stephen and his staff had a very busy day with the bar keeping people watered all day and long into the night. The major success of the day was approx 20 new members joining our club.

Well done to all our volunteers who ensured the smooth running of the event.

Walking on sunshine

Lost your groove?

Much like the tyres on your car, there comes a time when the grooves on your wedges have worn away so much that they need replacing. This process occurs slowly over time and is something that you might not notice at first glance, but when the wear becomes apparent it can have serious consequences on your game.

Fresh vs worn grooves

It might seem a little extreme, but the graphic above illustrates the impact worn grooves can have on shots into greens - a lower ball flight that rolls out farther compared to a wedge with fresh grooves.

Yes, you might be able to adapt by pitching the ball shorter and letting it roll out, but when you don't have much green to work with or are playing a delicate shot worn grooves will be of no use.

What do we suggest?

If dirt, grit and water have visibly harmed your wedge face, it’s time to get your groove back with a new wedge set-up.
