Winter is coming

We have experienced some interesting weather over the last few weeks and the great news is the golf course is standing up to all of it.

The greens & fairways are in great condition and everything bodes well for 2019. The greenstaff are busy at work this week deep injecting the greens with sand and keeping the surface going for the winter

Tour news

An ace week for Master Eddie

The British Masters took place at Walton Heath in Surrey last week and was hosted by the local favourite, Justin Rose. The tournament had a stark weather contrast from start to finish with conditions declining and making it a real grind for the players. The caddies were certainly tested during the final round trying to keep their players warm and dry. It was a day of umbrellas, waterproofs and wearing the correct layering, which at this time of year can help or hinder your round.

The tournament winner was Eddie Pepperell who dealt with the conditions the best and led from start to finish to claim a two-shot victory. Eddie’s highlight of the week was his impressive hole-in-one on Thursday at the ninth hole, earning £20,000 for charity and a celebratory bottle of wine from the tournament host. Pepperell now moves up to 33rd in the world rankings and with it an invite to next year’s biggest tournaments including his first trip to The Masters at Augusta.

New Rules are coming your way in 2019

There are lots of changes coming your way in the next few months and the new version of the R&A rule books will be available very soon in the pro shop.

Many of these rules are great additions or changes but some might catch you out if you are not porepared.

Make sure you are fully upto speed in preparation for the 2019 season.

Accuracy over distance

If you watched the Ryder Cup last month then one thing should have become clear to you: finding the fairway off the tee is a must. Whilst distance does help, there's no point thrashing a drive as far as you can if you don't hit the fairway, finding yourself cutting down trees as a result - as depicted in the illustration below.

Find the short stuff

In order to shoot lower scores you need to put a premium on finding the fairway, something that a custom fitting for Callaway's Rogue driver will certainly help with. Its Triaxial Carbon Crown allows for a huge amount of forgiveness, meaning your bad shots will be less destructive. If you tend to miss with a slice, the Draw bias version will be the perfect option for you.

Shake off a shower

As winter approaches, we can expect a lot of things with one certainty being rain, and a lot of it. We all know what this can lead to - feeling soaked out on the course, a barely readable scorecard and, in some cases, just a generally miserable round of golf. Enter, golf-specific waterproofs….

Spotlight: New PING Sigma 2 putters

There's a saying in golf that PING putters get better with age, yet its new range is pretty special.

Sigma 2 putters have a very soft feel thanks to its new face technology, but the main talking point is the adjustable-length shaft.
