Greetings golfers,

It's Major week again! We enter the final Major of 2017 at Quail Hollow this week and, after Hideki Matsuyama's win on Sunday at Akron, we could have a new world number 1 if he can follow up and win his first major. His performance was fantastic and the final round, a blemish free 61, was golf at its very best.
The 3 ball to watch on Thursday/Friday will be the traditional Major tee time grouping of Sergio Garcia (Masters) Brooks Koepka (US Open) & Jordan Spieth (British Open)

Champions Crowned

Our champions board for 2017 is now full after Saturday's finale, a huge congratulations to our youngest ever club champion Josh Greer and to 24 times ladies winner Maureen Woodhead.

Maureen had a very tight game with Emma Boyd, with many holes being halved, the game was eventually won on the 17th hole when a par was enough to secure yet another title.

The men's event was a little quieter than normal with 34 competitors, after the morning round John Jack held the lead with a brilliant 72, closely followed by Josh and 2016's runner up, Robert Clark, on 74. The pick of the other rounds were completed early with Ross Slater on 77 and Owen McDade on 75.

In the afternoon, with weary legs going back up the first, it was all to play fo.r Ian Rose rolled back the years with a fantastic 72 to keep the leaders in check. Through the turn Josh had got himself into the lead with some impressive solid par golf, defending champion Steven Higgins had a misbehaving putter which only warmed up on the back 9, thus enabling a super 3 under 70 to push Josh all the way. Young Josh was able to play the final hole with a solid driver-iron onto the green and a solid two putt to lift the Darroch Medal, following in his dad's footsteps.

Seniors Update

The senior team have been busy and have another home game on August 17th Vs Gleddoch and before this a tricky trip to Routenburn beckons on Tuesday.

The previous fixture saw the team at home v Largs, this resulted in a brilliant 5-1 home win, with two of the games being halved, meaning no one lost on the day. This helped the team progress up the league table.
Team manager Chris Robertson is hoping to arrange an end of season scramble for the senior pool of players, keep an eye on the noticeboard.

In order to make space for new Autumn/Winter stock, I need to clear the shelves quickly. There are boxes and boxes of new stock waiting to go on the shelves. I still have massive savings on:

Upcoming Events

On Thursday the rescheduled Guintoli Junior Open takes place in the morning, the tee has been reserved from 9.15am-10.30am for our junior golfers. Please be aware of this whilst out playing, no play will be available from the 10th tee after 10am to avoid any hold ups.

On Friday we host the 2017 MacDonald & Co Golf Day, this annual event sees Robert and his staff entertain clients and friends. The format of this day will follow on from 2016 with a two tee start commencing at 11am, any members looking for a game please contact the Pro Shop and we can advise on tee time availability.

Sunday is Mixed Open Day at Gourock, past lady captain Carolyn Craig has been busy organising and this is always a great day at GGC. The tee is reserved from 8.30am-3pm for this event, NO play available from tee no 10.
