Lombard Qualifier

The playing season continued last Saturday with the Lombard Qualifier. 131 players competed in the annual qualifier with the successful winner winning a spot as my partner for the Scottish Region event at Crieff GC on Monday 10th July before, hopefully, winning a place on the flight to Portugal in September. 

On Saturday we were greeted by strong winds, showers and with temperatures low, none of the early starters gained an advantage. Very early on it became apparent that the scores being returned were high and the CSS stayed at 75 all day, meaning handicap reductions only. Mid-afternoon the first under par score of the day was returned by Logan Young, continuing his fine form with a brilliant nett 70. This score would stay at the top of the leaderboard with form men, Paul Elder and Kenny McAlpine getting close, both with nett 72s. 

Logan now aged 74 years young and down to 14.5 from 18 two weeks ago, will now join me at Crieff in July to begin our challenge on the Lombard Trophy.


 

Callaway Demo Day

Callaway's new Epic driver is the talk of the golfing world at the moment, increasing distance off the tee for professional and amateur goflers alike.

The Future Is Bright

We have been delighted to welcome quite a few new/returning junior members into the club this month. Along with our four bursary students we have also added another five members, which is brilliant to see. 

All the committee and I ask is that you support these young men and women on their journey through the junior ranks and lend your support when you see them out on the course and around the practice areas. 

We all had to learn somewhere. It is hoped that with the encouragement and support of all our members we will continue to grow the junior section and have the best section in the area. 

On that note, our popular junior academy starts again next week. Every Tuesday night from 25th April we will welcome our young stars from age 6 to come up and receive expert coaching from our team of level 1 volunteer coaches. As in 2016 we will use the 1st hole from 5.15pm - 7.30pm and your continued support is appreciated.


 

Starting On The 10th Hole

As we enter the playing season the committee have asked me to remind everyone of the rules regarding booking your game and play from 10th Tee. 

In order to monitor play on the course, we really need everyone to book a tee time, helping us to know who is on the course and who is booked into play. Please put your names on the BRS booking system. 

Play from 10th tee is only allowed if there is definitely no game playing down the 9th and you check with pro shop who think it is ok to start there. Games starting here have no standing on the course and must stand aside. In addition to this, on a Wednesday, when there are ladies and gents medals, it would be helpful to all to have no games starting on the 10th. 

At the moment we have members booking tee times then going ahead onto the 10th. This makes the back nine very busy, holding up games which are halfway through their rounds.
