10 years and counting
This week I celebrate my 10th anniversary at Gourock Golf Club and, just like day 1 in 2007, the sun has been shining and the course looks fantastic.
I would like to say a huge thank you to each and every one of you for all your support, there has been some dark times especially when the shop went on fire, as well as some very gloomy weeks and months during the winter.
You have all been very supportive, especially during Pro's Day every year, as well as to me and my family. As I said all those years ago, all I ask is that you when you are looking for golf equipment/shoes/clothes/balls and any other accessories, that you give me the chance to supply you, go to my website www.derekwattersgolf.co.uk, or just give me a call.

A nail biting finish
The final of the Sam Esler was a very close affair. Played on Saturday in lovely weather, Kenny & Les were 1up thru 9 holes, RT & Toots came back strong and led by one hole going down the last, with the hole eventually being conceded with our new Sam Esler champions being crowned - Congratulations to Robert & Tommy.
In the official Club Individual Stableford event Kenny McAlpine made up for the disappointment of not winning with Les and secured the Thom Bateman shield. A fantastic winter performance Kenny!
Opening Day update - FULL
The official 2017 playing season commences on Saturday at 10am.
To celebrate my 10th anniversary at GGC the captain and I will host a fun new event with the plan as follows:
- Captain Bill, Lady Captain Morag and I will hit ceremonial opening tee shots at 9.55am
- A two tee start will commence thereafter with a buffet served on completion of play
- The format will be a 2 person Texas Scramble
- The cost is £10 per person
- This event is co-sponsored by Callaway Golf, Wilson Staff, Tennent'
- Goodie bags will handed out as you Register in Pro Shop
- An informal prize-giving will take place at 3pm
More juniors enjoying the game
Over the winter I have continued working with the juniors of Gourock. We recently finished two 4 week blocks of indoor classes in conjunction with Gourock Community Sports Hub, I would like to say a huge thanks to all the boys and I have been amazed at some of the improvements made.
