My September clear out has started this week and as I write, the pro shop is undergoing a deep clean and reorganisation to get ready for the looming Winter season. I apologise to anyone caught in the moving madness over the next few days. As new stock arrives - including Glenmuir, Sunderland, Under Armour and Puma - I want to get it all out on the shelves and presented to let you all peruse and plan for Christmas.
Sponsors' Day
Last week we hosted our 2016 sponsors for this annual texas scramble event. 15 teams played on the day but due to the worsening weather, the majority played nine holes and the event was scored over the front nine. A huge thanks to all of the teams who played and enjoyed the fabulous meal they received from Adrian. The winners on the day with a gross 5-under-par were WH Kirkwood Team 1.
Ladies Invitational
Our annual Ladies Invitational event was played on Sunday with over 50 competitors taking part in the mixed greensomes format. This fun flag competition sees teamstry to get as far round the course that they can before placing their flag in the ground where the last stroke is made from.
Winners of this prestigious tournament were club captain Bill Hawthorne and lady captain Norma Ramsay who almost completed hole 17. They are pictured below with their haul of goodies. Runners up on the day were Joan Green and Billy O'Donnell. Winners of the wooden spoon and the 1st flag spotted on the course were the team of Malcolm Keenan and Susan Ray who made it to the 14th. A fantastic sum of £1230.31 was raised on the day and Norma would like to thank everyone who contributed to the raffle and auction.
This week we are catching up with ex-junior and professional golfer Blair Harvey. He turned pro a few years ago and, after a spell at Loudoun Golf Centre and then a stint at Glasgow Golf Club, he has now moved to the sunnier climate of Qatar, to live alongside parents Euan & Amanda and work at Doha GC. Here is his news:
Greetings to Gourock GC,
As most of you know, I left sunny Gourock a few months ago to tackle the golf industry in the Middle East. It's hot....but full of exciting opportunities. Maybe not as exciting as the infamous Sam Esler Winter League at GGC but very close?
My season is about to tee off, just in time for the opening of our new academy and the hosting of both men's and ladies European Tour events. I hope the season at Gourock has been kind to you and those of you who will brave the elements of the winter league: all the best. Believe me when I say it is something I will miss.
All the best and regards,
Blair Harvey

What's on at GGC this week?
A quiet week ahead on the course this week. Hugh and his team have spent Monday getting a cut around as much of the course as possible before the expected storm arrives.
On Saturday the Roxburgh Trophy is being played for and on Sunday we have our Finals Day from 10am. The 3rd Gourock BB play their Annual Golf Day on Sunday afternoon. Best of luck to everyone taking to the fairways this week.
