Sponsors' Day & lots more in September
We are about to enter September which promises to be a very busy month at Gourock GC. Our annual Sponsors' Day, Ladies Pink Flag Day, Roxburgh Trophy, T O Neill, Captain vs Vice challenge match and our senior team finish off their campaign at Port Glasgow all this month.
You will probably have noticed that Professional's Day is NOT on this list as over the weekend I have decided to move it to the end of the season. With lots of team competitions on this month, especially on Saturdays, and some other external factors to consider, the new date will be 29th October. The event will be a shotgun start at 11am with the format to be announced in due course. Cost per team will be £80 and this will include a buffet meal served by Adrian afterwards. Please email me with your team ASAP. There will be space for maximum 120 players with this new format.
Paisley reciprocal
In the past week we have made another major addition to our reciprocal list by signing-up Paisley Golf Club. This cracking course is situated high above Paisley town and is a great track. I have played many Newton Shield matches and junior events at Paisley Bushes and if you have time please go for a game. As with all reciprocal courses, get in touch with me at the pro shop and I will make the reservation for you. You can visit their website here - www.paisleygolfclub.co.uk.
Greenkeepers' work
This week Hugh and the team are continuing with scarifying the remaining fairways on the front nine - as I go to print, holes six to eight are being worked on.
Our old sign for the halfway point is now back in place. Please adhere to the rules for starting on the back nine - as seen in the photo here.
This week I start by heading to Crieff GC for the Scottish PGA qualifying event, with the PGA being held in October at Gleneagles' Kings course. Wednesday's event will see around 20 players make the cut and take their spot at the prestigious four round event in mid-October.
Thanks to all who took the time to wish my son, Euan, a happy birthday on Saturday. This was the reason I was not about after 9am on Saturday morning. Here he is pictured with his new Motherwell kit on the way to be team mascot for the day. This weekend sees Jamie, my youngest, turn six and he is also pictured below with his cheeky smile.
John Leith
As many of you will know, John is now in hospital awaiting his operation for a new heart valve and heart bypass. Thank you for all the best wishes passed to John over the last few days, his op is on Wednesday. Let's hope all goes well and we see him back at the helm of Gourock GC in a few months.
