Love your greens
What a week: thunderstorms, lightning, sunshine, high winds and rain. We have had it all but still our greens are covered in your un-repaired pitchmarks. I was out on the course on three separate occasions this week and was in shock at how many I had to fix, especially on Friday night when on the 12th green my kids and I fixed around 30 marks between us. I urge everyone to spend some time and find your own, and if possible repair one other. If we all did this our already super greens would be so much smoother.
Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to congratulate me on my 5th place finish at Deer Park last week, it is great to have the support of everyone. It was felt good to compete against the top players on our tour again and to be able to secure a high finish.
We are now entering a very busy month and to kick things off I will have a super-exclusive sale rail in place from Friday morning. Be quick as there will only be limited clothing available and once they're gone, they're gone. There will be loads of bargains to be had from Callaway, Under Armour, Wilson Staff, Puma and Glenmuir.
As the month ploughs on, I will be getting lots of deliveries of Autumn/Winter stock from Sunderland, ProQuip, Under Armour and Stuburt. Please get in touch if you're looking for a particular item for the late season or indeed Christmas.
Congratulation to our own Alec Watkins on not only turning 18 this week, but also picking up the handicap trophy at the Guintoli. Alec managed a fine gross 78 to win the silverware, the scratch prize was won by Jamie Sinnamon (Whinhill).
The club owes John Jack and his team a debt of gratitude for organising this year's event; many clubs have had to cancel their 2016 Open events but John and the team worked very hard to ensure Gourock's went ahead.
The Junior Academy should make a return to the course this week. The last two weeks have seen very late call-offs due to horrific weather. It will be great to see all the kids back around the club on Tuesday.
Member's Guest - As I write this, Jim McNee & Scott Young have just won the 2016 event with a fine nett 68. This year we had a record entry and although conditions were extremely tough with gusting winds and rain for the later tee-times, it's great to see the winners crowned.
Mixed Open - On Sunday we host our annual mixed event with couples travelling from all over the west of Scotland to compete. Carolyn has amassed a full entry and let's hope the sun shines and we have another worthy winner round our course.
This weekend we are busy with MacDonald & Co hosting their annual corporate day at the club. This day is greatly enjoyed by all of Robert's clients and close friends. Due to this the restaurant is closed to all other bookings on Friday night.
On Saturday, Adrian and his staff have availability for dinner bookings. Please contact the bar (631001) to book a table.
Sunday will see the Mixed Open take place. Due to this there is limited availability for the popular Sunday Carvery. Booking is essential to avoid disappointment.
