As you will all have seen this week, there is beginning to be intensive work on quite a few of the fairways. This process of scarification is taking off the top moss layer and helping the drainage around the course. On Monday the greens committee had a demo of a new German machine which cuts deep into the fairways to get the thatch removed from the grass. As I write we have another demo planned for Thursday.
Works continue to edge and tidy all of the bunkers around the course, with some heat required to get the fresh grass growing. As I said at the end of last week, PREFERRED LIES are now in operation, this rule will continue until further notice. Please keep an eye on the board outside shop and on the website.
Congratulations to this year's Masters Stableford winner, Mr Bill Goodwin. His excellent haul of 21 points was enough to win the coveted green polo shirt and get his name on the shield. He is pictured here receiving the trophy from John last weekend.
Sunshine has been the story again this week, although I did see a flurry of snow on Monday afternoon whilst out coaching. Let's hope that it starts to heat up as we enter May and we get to see some growth on the course. For those of you who were up early on Saturday morning, we had a sharp frost waiting for the April Medal. We had 128 players enter the medal this weekend and let's hope that those numbers will peak around the 150 mark very soon. I thought that, for the advantage of the newer members to the club, I should issue a couple of reminders to all:
- The third man slot only becomes available on the day as soon as the pro shop opens
- This is NOT available online or by calling the shop
- To get a third man position you must come up in person
- The only exceptions to this are for members who live a good distance away e.g Erskine, Bishopton, Largs etc
- If you have a time you must arrive at club 10-15 minutes before your allotted tee-time
- Cancellations have to be made by phone at least one hour before the time
- Please call games up at holes 7 & 8 and where possible on other parts of golf course
- Any new members playing for handicap must hand all three cards once complete to myself or bar staff to pass to M&H
- Please place all litter including glass bottles & tops in bins around course. We also have a separate recycling point outside the shop where glass can be deposited
Tuesday saw Callaway arrive to fit nine members who had snapped up the available slots for my Callaway Demo Day. With the XR product earning rave reviews and also being in the hands of Masters winner Danny Willett, it is the hot product of 2016. Everyone gained yardage and accuracy on the day and have ordered their new clubs. Callaway Golf will return later in the season to conduct another fitting event. For those of you who would like to try the product at your own convenience just let me know. I have a demo driver available and irons as well.
Upcoming Events
My next fitting event will be by Cobra Golf on Thursday, 19 May between 4pm and 8pm. Slots for this are now bookable by calling into pro shop or sending me an email here.
Wilson Staff are next to visit in May where Graham Ross - their expert fitter - will be on site to let you try all of their clubs including the new C200 iron and the F5 range of woods. This event takes place on the afternoon of Tuesday, 31 May from 12noon - 4pm.
Next week I will have some exciting news on a couple of new courses that we have signed reciprocal deals with this week.
